Job Title: Library Clerk (Part-time)
Shift / Hours: Fridays 3-5pm, Saturdays 10am - 1pm - 5 hours per week
Job Summary
Under minimal supervision from the Supervising Librarian, the Library Clerk provides outstanding customer service, performs circulation control, reader's advisory, and clerical activities. This is a position that requires a flexible, community-oriented person with basic computer skills. Job performance is reviewed by the Library’s Board of Trustees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or high school equivalency required. Applicants must be age 18 and up. A bachelor's degree or coursework beyond the high school level is desirable. Previous customer service and/or library experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Physical Demands
Physically able to operate technical equipment such as computers, scanners, printers, and mobile devices. Ability to stand at workstation for a period of 3 hours at a time. Strength to push or pull a loaded book cart, to lift or maneuver onto cart loads of up to 50 pounds. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities to communicate effectively. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation to read books and patron requests. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes which permits the employee to re-shelve library materials and work at public service desks.
Hours of Work
5 hours per week including Saturday 10am - 1pm and 3-5pm on Fridays.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs functions related to circulation such as checkouts, check-ins, inquiries, holds, renewals, fine assessment and collection, over-dues and patron registration
- Delivers exceptional and engaging customer service to the public over the phone and in person
- Observes heightened safety and hygiene protocols, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic
- Assists borrowers in locating books and materials, referring them if necessary, to the professional librarian
- Processes deliveries - moving and unloading bins and checking-in items
- Assists patrons with use of technologies, including computers, laptops, e-readers, tablets, printer, scanners, and copy machine, including basic trouble-shooting and maintenance
- Maintains orderliness and neatness in the branch; merchandizes and shelves materials and reads shelves as necessary
- May assist in the implementation of programs for adults and/or children
- May assist in operating audio-visual equipment in the presenting of library programs
- Performs housekeeping such as regularly disinfecting surfaces, vacuuming, and cleaning the bathroom (these duties are shared with other library employees and augmented by a professional cleaner once a month)
- Any other duties required by the Supervising Librarian for the good of the library and the library system

- Ability to work independently and as a team player to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers, and supervisor
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately and thoroughly
- Flexibility to fill in during scheduling emergencies and vacation periods, in addition to working a regular part-time schedule
- Ability to recognize situations that require referral to the professional librarian

- Willingness to maintain and improve skills in the above mentioned areas
