2014-Summer Reading Program
The theme for 2014 is Science;
The slogans are "Fizz, Boom, Read" for children,
"Spark a Reaction" for teens and "Literary Elements" for adults (check the HCL main website for more details about the adult program.)
The 2014 Summer Reading Program Registration for children ages 3-9 will begin on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. (*The July 31st program is designed for children over 10 yrs of age.) Children read alone or together 10 books and then color in their form and can exchange for a small gift. Our goal is read over 500 books. In conjunction with our program we offer events which require pre-registration as our space is limited. Our program is open to Holland and Alexandria children first.

Summer Science Fun at the Library
(Thurs, July 31, 2014) See photos below.
Young library patrons conducted different types of chemistry experiments as part the of the Library’s ongoing Children Programs. This was the last program of four that the library hosted as part of this year’s Summer Reading Program. This national summer reading theme is “Fizz, Boom, Read!” The program was lead by Mary Ellen Aleksza, Library VIce-president and North Hunterdon HS Science teacher and her daughter Tatiana Tomanek, an incoming Freshman at Del Val HS. The children were allowed to do a series of experiments themselves such as changing colorless liquids pink and colorless again, making elephant’s toothpaste, film canister rockets, “silly-putty” and conducting the famous “Coke and Mentos” experiment as part of this program
